PILGRIMAGES
A Journey of Prayer and Encounter
From the earliest centuries of Christianity, men and women have set out on pilgrimage — drawn by a desire to encounter God in places shaped by prayer, history, and faith.
Pilgrimage is not simply travel. It is a way of stepping outside the ordinary rhythm of life in order to listen more deeply, to pray more intentionally, and to walk—both physically and spiritually—toward God.

Why Pilgrimage?
Pilgrimage is a way of stepping away from the familiar in order to see more clearly. Certain places, shaped by centuries of prayer, invite a deeper awareness of God’s presence.
In these settings, many experience a quiet sense of peace, clarity, and attentiveness — a space where the spiritual life comes into sharper focus.
For Christians, pilgrimage has long been a way of seeking out these places — walking in the footsteps of Christ, the saints, and generations of the faithful.
The Pilgrimage Experience
Pilgrimages offered through Glastonbury Abbey are shaped by the Benedictine rhythm of prayer and community.
Each journey includes:
- Mass and shared prayer
- Time for reflection and conversation
- Visits to historically and spiritually significant sites
These are not tours, but shared spiritual journeys — open to those who seek a deeper encounter with God.
A Continuing Invitation
Since 1999, Glastonbury Abbey has led pilgrimages to sacred sites across Europe and the Holy Land — journeys shaped by prayer, history, and the shared life of the community.
Each pilgrimage offers the opportunity to step away from daily life, to walk with intention, and to encounter God in places shaped by faith across generations.
We are currently preparing for a pilgrimage to England in September 2026, visiting sites of historical and spiritual significance.
