Our Lady of Glastonbury Abbey in Hingham, Massachusetts was founded in 1954 by Benet Lake Abbey in Wisconsin to carry on the 1500 year living tradition of St.
Benedict (480-547 CE), patriarch of western monasticism. We are a community of Benedictine monks committed to seeking God within the tradition of the Roman Catholic Church as specified by the Benedictine way of life.
A Day in the Life of a Monk
(Abbot Tom)
Life at Glastonbury Abbey follows the timeless rhythm of prayer and work — ora et labora. Each day is shaped by community, hospitality, and the search for God in all things. Guided by the Rule of St. Benedict, the monks welcome each guest as Christ and strive to live with humility, balance, and joy in the Benedictine way.
The Path to Becoming a Monk (Brother Dan & Father Albrecht)
Every journey to monastic life is unique. Some arrive early in search of prayer and purpose; others come later, drawn by a deepening faith and the call to community. At Glastonbury Abbey, men from all walks of life find a home shaped by the Benedictine rhythm of prayer, work, and hospitality. Those discerning a vocation are warmly invited to visit, listen, and experience this life of grace and belonging.
