Meet the Monks

Abbot Thomas
A member of the Glastonbury Abbey community since 1968, Father Thomas was elected as the Abbey’s third Abbot in 2013 after serving nearly two years as Prior-Administrator. In addition to his leadership responsibilities, he offers spiritual direction, leads retreats, and facilitates Ultreya gatherings. He also serves as liaison to Praesidium, supporting the Abbey’s certification as a Safe Place for Children and Vulnerable Adults.

Father Timothy
Father Timothy has been a member of the community since 1976 and serves as a priest and theologian of Glastonbury Abbey. He ministers through homilies, spiritual direction, talks, writings, and other monastic responsibilities. He has published four books and regularly writes Monastic Scribe, a blog offering reflections on faith and daily life. His interest in Celtic spirituality is expressed through his teaching and the pilgrimages he leads.

Father Nicholas
Father Nicholas came to the Abbey in 1963 and served as Abbot from 1986 to 2008. He continues to share his gifts through retreats, programs for the Glastonbury Abbey Institute, and spiritual direction. He also serves as the Abbey’s Master of Liturgical Ceremonies and advises on the management and maintenance of the Abbey’s buildings and grounds.

Brother David
A member of Glastonbury Abbey since 1967, Brother David serves as choirmaster and organist, preparing the Sunday music and leading the Abbey’s liturgical music ministry. He is also the community’s archivist and serves as secretary of both the Chapter and the Abbey’s legal corporation.

Brother Daniel
Brother Daniel has been a member of Glastonbury Abbey since 1973. He serves as Prior and Administrative Assistant to the Abbot and is a member of the Abbot’s Council. He directs the Abbey’s retreat programs and guesthouses, assists with vocations, and represents the Abbey within the Hingham Area Religious Leaders Association. He is active in ministry to the homeless and offers spiritual direction.

Brother James
Brother James has been part of the Abbey community since 1990. He is one of the creators and caretakers of the Abbey’s outdoor labyrinth, where he offers talks and reflections. He maintains the trail system, tends the community garden, and coordinates Sunday coffee and other community activities.

Andrew
Andrew joined the Glastonbury Abbey community in 1995 and serves as Sacristan, caring for the Abbey’s liturgical spaces and preparing what is needed for daily prayer and worship. He supports the community through quiet, steady work that sustains the rhythm of monastic life.

Father Albrecht
A member of the Glastonbury Abbey community since 2009, Father Albrecht was ordained a priest in 2018. He manages the Morcone Conference Center and serves as Oblate Director and Vocation Director, working closely with Brother Daniel. He helps maintain the Abbey’s social media presence, directs the live-streaming ministry, and provides IT, A/V, and technical support to his brother monks. He also serves as Assistant Sacristan and represents the monastic community on the Glastonbury Abbey Institute committee.
