Columbarium

A place of prayer, remembrance, and rest.

A Sacred Resting Place

Glastonbury Abbey has long been a place where people come seeking quiet, prayer, and a sense of belonging. In response to individuals who hoped for a final resting place on these grounds, members of our extended community—together with the monks—established the Columbarium at Glastonbury Abbey.

Set beside the monastic cemetery, the columbaria are low stone walls nestled into peaceful alcoves. They offer a dignified and contemplative space for the interment of cremated remains.

Interment at the Abbey

The Columbarium Committee oversees the full process of interment, including:

  • Expression of Interest
  • Contractual Agreement / Application
  • Scheduling the opening and closing of the niche
  • Ongoing care of the grounds

A detailed brochure, including the initial application, is available in the sidebar.

The Columbarium offers a quiet and sacred place of rest within the Abbey’s prayerful grounds. If you have questions would like guidance in beginning the application process, the Columbarium Office is available to assist.
