Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction offers a simple way to slow down and notice God’s presence in daily life. This centuries-old practice remains a meaningful companion for anyone seeking clarity, grounding, or a deeper sense of the sacred.

At Glastonbury Abbey, spiritual directors listen with care and help you reflect on where God may be speaking in your life. Conversations are one-on-one, confidential, last approximately one hour, and are held in a spirit of gentleness and trust.

Our team includes both monks and trained lay women who serve this ministry with attentiveness and humility. Brief biographies of our lay directors appear below.

Meet the Spiritual Direction Team

Karen Casale

Karen completed her spiritual direction training through the St. Anthony Shrine Franciscan formation program. An oblate of Glastonbury Abbey, she brings a steady, reflective approach to this ministry.

Her work in hospice care and her long professional career in marketing have shaped her attentive, compassionate way of listening. Karen values helping others notice God’s presence in the rhythms of daily life and welcomes anyone seeking a more reflective spiritual path.

Mayre Hammond

Mayre first entered spiritual direction during a period of personal discernment. That experience, along with her Master’s in Ministry and later training at St. Anthony Shrine, led her to serve as a spiritual director herself.

As an active member of the lay community of Glastonbury Abbey, she has guided retreats and days of reflection for many years. Mayre is grounded in her own faith tradition while remaining open to wisdom across traditions. She offers a calm, supportive presence to those hoping to recognize God’s grace and direction in their lives.
